Botulinum Toxin A (brand names Botox or Dysport) is a neurotoxin that works by blocking the signal between specific nerves and muscles in order to temporarily relax muscle action. Botulinum toxin injection is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines, improve facial spams, correct crossed eyes, and soften wrinkles. Botulinum toxin side effects may include bruising and redness. There is minimal downtime with the injections and patients are able to return to work and resume normal activities after treatment.
