Karina Richani, MD

Oculoplastic Surgeon

Dr. Richani first came to Houston in 2013 and has served as the Director of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Cizik Eye Clinic, Department of Ophthalmology, at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School, where she was also an Associate Professor. Originally from Venezuela, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from medical school. She completed her residency in Ophthalmology at Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, followed by a 2-year fellowship in Oculoplastics at Consultants in Ophthalmic Plastic & Facial Surgery in Michigan.

Dr. Richani is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), and has authored numerous articles, abstracts, and book chapters in the field of Oculoplastics. She joined Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons of Texas in 2021. Her particular interests include cosmetic rejuvenation using Botox and fillers, laser procedures, and cosmetic lid surgery utilizing the most advanced techniques and latest technology available. Other procedures performed include correction of eyelid malposition, periocular and facial reconstruction as a result of tumors or trauma, and tearing disorders. She is fluent in Spanish and serves patients of all ages.

Teaching has been a special interest of Dr. Richani, including training of medical students, residents, and Oculoplastic fellows. She continues to volunteer her time as a preceptor for the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship program at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her commitment to teaching has earned her several resident and fellow teaching awards.

She enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. Her hobbies include exercising, traveling, and cooking.
